An opportunity has arisen for a Design Engineering Manager to join our busy team who create bespoke storage designs for our customers who we manufacture and install a range of storage products for. You will be based at our Telford site with an occasional requirement to travel to other Whittan sites From turnkey designs to supporting our network of approved storage resellers every day is a different challenge.

The Whittan group is the market leading supplier of pallet racking, shelving, mezzanine and lockers in the UK, and we are proud of the length of service of many of our team as they grow and develop their careers with us. Selling via a number of sales channels with market leading brands we design, manufacture, and install storage solutions for commercial and industrial environments in the UK and Europe.

The ideal candidate will have proven experience as a Design Manager or a similar leadership role within a fast paced manufacturing and sales environment. Previous experience within the storage industry, particularly racking, shelving and or mezzanines would be desirable.

The role will involve ensuring the design team are offering an excellent service level to all indirect and direct customers. The design team have a direct influence on our sales success therefore effective leadership of the design team is required to ensure we maximise our sales through accurate interpretation of customers’ requirements, effective communication at all stages, quality information and speed of response.

Key responsibilities:

• Allocating quotes and orders to an appropriate designer within your team based on skill set and capacity to achieve return dates.
• Manage the resource and workload regularly to update sales, customers and project managers of progress.
• Checking of quotes and orders for accuracy prior to submission.
• Managing re quotes and customer changes effectively to ensure accuracy throughout the life cycle of the quote or order.
• Work closely with the bid manager to ensure bid timescales are adhered to.
• Ensure we mitigate design risks and ensure any residual risks are documented correctly to
adhere to CDM 2015 regulations.
• Ensure 100% compliance of all HR processes for the whole design team.
• Investigate all cost of failure to ensure processes are put in place to mitigate future errors.
• Further develop the core capabilities of the engineering team through coaching and training to achieve career plans for members of the team.

Required experience/skills/qualifications:

• Confident communicator
• Excellent time management and organisational skills
• Excellent mentoring and coaching skills
• High attention to detail
• Diploma degree in a mechanical or general engineering with a focus on engineering maths, design and science
• Minimum GCSE A-C or equivalent in English, Science and Maths.
• Full UK driving licence
