Looking for a career where you get paid to travel? Yeah, there’s a job for that…

Travel Bloggers are freelance writers who travel around the world and put together stories about their experiences.Usually, they’ll publish what they write on their own blogs, vlogs and websites. However, some Travel Bloggers may also blog about their trips on other sites, contributing regular stories in a similar way to a traditional Travel Writer.

For many Travel Bloggers, their work also includes some form of photography, which helps add to the overall experience and sense of personal style.

Typical responsibilities for a Travel Blogger may include:

  • Arranging trips and organising accommodation
  • Contacting hotels and resorts to offer reviews
  • Reaching out to companies to advertise on the site
  • Writing, editing and uploading blog posts
  • Responding to comments and building followers
  • Offering tips and advice to people looking to visit new places
  • Travelling to the next destination
To become a Travel Blogger, you’ll need to be happy travelling to all sorts of destinations, using various different methods of transport. If your idea of wanderlust is a day out on the Woolwich Ferry, this may not be the career for you.

You’ll also need to be comfortable with your own company, often having to work on your own, sometimes for weeks or months at a time. Even if you meet new people along the way, it can be a pretty lonely place when you’re off the beaten track.

Additionally, as most Travel Bloggers make money through running ads on their own site, excellent sales and self-promotion skills, not to mention some basic knowledge of coding, will be similarly essential.

Other key skills for a Travel Blogger include:

  • Imagination, and a passion for seeing new places
  • Self-motivation and organisational skills
  • Business acumen
  • Tech and photography skills
  • Adaptability, and good awareness
  • A strong constitution

Get qualified as a Travel Blogger

You won’t need any specific qualifications to become a Travel Blogger, but you will need strong writing, photography, and social media skills, along with a passion for travel and firsthand knowledge of destinations and cultures.

Travel Bloggers must be adept at digital marketing to attract and engage audiences, leveraging SEO and social media to grow their following and monetise their content through partnerships.

Continuous learning and adaptability are equally crucial in the ever-changing landscape of travel blogging, allowing bloggers to stay competitive and maintain authenticity with their audience.
