Description

Known as the ‘cost of caring’, compassion fatigue is defined as a form of stress that arises as a result of helping or wanting to help those who are traumatised or under significant emotional duress. The Compassion Fatigue Awareness Diploma Course explores this topic - explaining what it is, who it affects, how it comes about, and how to prevent and treat it.

The Compassion Fatigue Awareness Diploma Course begins with an explanation of compassion fatigue and an outline of the difference between compassion fatigue and burnout. We’ll look at studies on the topic of compassion fatigue and discover its symptoms.

Next, we’ll walk through three case studies that outline and explore the condition. The course also uncovers the risk factors of compassion fatigue, which include personal attributes, personal situations and organisational situations.

Those working in the healthcare sector are some of those most at risk of suffering with compassion fatigue. We’ll look at how nurses, doctors, mental health professionals and other caregivers can become affected. We will also discuss moral injury and critical care, and look at how compassion fatigue affects lawyers, police officers and other therapists.

The course looks into the factors and specific situations that can lead to compassion fatigue, how some of these factors are interrelated, and how they can amalgamate to form a larger challenge.

You’ll learn how to prevent and effectively treat compassion fatigue. We’ll look into the ABCs of prevention in both the reduction and elimination of compassion fatigue, how to identify the signs and how to use daily self-care.

The course concludes with an explanation of the compassion fatigue process.

Who is this course for?

This course will benefit those working as nurses, doctors, mental health professionals and other caregivers, along with lawyers, police officers and other therapists and counsellors.

From the course, you will gain the ability to recognise compassion fatigue in yourself and others and understand why it occurs. You’ll also become familiar with effective methods you can employ to tackle it and improve stress resilience. You’ll also learn about the relationship between burnout and compassion fatigue and how they differ, and gain enough confidence in your understanding of the topic to pursue further study, should you wish to.

At Reed Courses, courses are delivered in a number of ways, including online courses, where the course content can be accessed online remotely, and classroom courses, where courses are delivered in person at a classroom venue.

CPD stands for Continuing Professional Development. If you work in certain professions or for certain companies, your employer may require you to complete a number of CPD hours or points, per year. You can find a range of CPD courses on Reed Courses, many of which can be completed online.

A regulated qualification is delivered by a learning institution which is regulated by a government body. In England, the government body which regulates courses is Ofqual. Ofqual regulated qualifications sit on the Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF), which can help students understand how different qualifications in different fields compare to each other. The framework also helps students to understand what qualifications they need to progress towards a higher learning goal, such as a university degree or equivalent higher education award.

An endorsed course is a skills based course which has been checked over and approved by an independent awarding body. Endorsed courses are not regulated so do not result in a qualification - however, the student can usually purchase a certificate showing the awarding body's logo if they wish. Certain awarding bodies - such as Quality Licence Scheme and TQUK - have developed endorsement schemes as a way to help students select the best skills based courses for them.
