Description

On completion of the course, students will gain a better understanding of knife crime, why knife crime has become prevalent in recent years and who can be affected.

You will gain an understanding of the concern that knife crime is fast becoming an epidemic across the country, specifically impacting young people, families and communities.

You will explore the reasons why a person may carry a knife in different situations where they feel the need to protect themselves, commit a crime, cause fear or reinforce their status or reputation.

In order to complete the course, you must achieve 80%or more in the final multiple choice quiz.

You will earn 3 CPD points on completion of the course, this course will take around 3 hours to complete and the certificate will last for two years.

Units covered

  • Unit 1 - Introduction to knife crime - In the first unit of knife crime awareness we will define what is meant by the term knife crime. You will learn about the offences covered by knife crime and explore UK statistics on knife crime.
  • Unit 2 - Causes of knife crime- In this unit we will explore the causes of knife crime and the factors affecting knife crime. You will also learn about the signs and indicators of knife crime and explore the reasons people may carry a knife.
  • Unit 3 - The law on knife crime - In the third unit we will learn about UK law on knife crime and the guidelines and restrictions relating to knifes and knife crime. You will also explore the offensive weapons act (OWA) 2019 and learn about the penalties for knife crime and sentencing.
  • Unit 4 - Preventing knife crime - In the final unit we willexplorethe different ways in which crime can be prevented. You will learn about interventions such as restorative justice, pulling levers and specialist services and support for knife crime, you will also learn about how to support an individual when knife crime takes place

Requirements

You are required to complete a 30 question multiple choice quiz at the end of the course. Where you need to achieve at least 80% or above to pass. You can complete the quiz as many times as you need to pass
