Overview

The aim of this qualification is to recognise the knowledge, skills and competence of individuals who specialise in a wood-based occupation in the construction industry.

Its main objective is to confirm the learner's occupational competence as a Wood Occupations. Being a work-related, competence-based qualification it will provide, on completion, confirmation to employers, industry managers and card schemes that learners have the skills and knowledge needed to meet the nationally recognised standard to carry out their preferred role.

Description

There are six pathways for the Wood Occupation qualification and candidates are expected to choose which of the pathways that is most relevant to their skills. The pathways are:

  • Pathway 1 – Site Carpentry
  • Pathway 2 – Architectural Joinery
  • Pathway 3 – Structural Post and Beam Carpentry
  • Pathway 4 – Light Structural Timber Framing
  • Pathway 5 – Timber Frame Erection
  • Pathway 6 – Timber Decks and Cladding

Candidates must demonstrate the level of knowledge described in the unit. Assessment is the process of measuring a candidate’s knowledge and understanding against the standards set in the qualification.

Each candidate is required to produce evidence which demonstrates their achievement of all of the learning outcomes and assessment criteria for each unit.

Learners can leverage on the skills and knowledge acquired from achievement of this qualification when working towards earning another qualification or gaining employment.

The awarding organisation for this qualification is ProQual Awarding Body and the regulatory body is the Office of Qualifications and Examinations Regulation (Ofqual).

The specification for these qualifications has been approved by the Welsh Government for use by centres in Wales and by the Council for the Curriculum Examinations and Assessment (CCEA) for use by centres in Northern Ireland

Who is this course for?

This Course is for individuals who are already working as Carpenter our performing wood based occupational tasks and are looking to prove their competence and get certified.

Requirements

There are no formal entry requirements for this qualification.

ASQ will carry out an initial assessment of candidate skills and knowledge to identify any gaps and help plan the assessment.

Career path

This would Lead to CSCS Blue card once completed and ot helps lay the path for the Level 3 in Wood Occupation.
