Overview
Osteopathy is a way of detecting, treating and preventing health problems by moving, stretching and massaging a person's muscles and joints. Osteopathy is based on the principle that the well-being of an individual depends on their bones, muscles, ligaments and connective tissue functioning smoothly together.
They use a range of techniques, but not drugs or surgery. Osteopathy was invented over a hundred years ago as an alternative to drugs and surgery. Today, root problems are still not addressed, making people sicker. What the Physician and surgeons who created Osteopathy, attempted to do in 1874 was heal the body without doing it harm. This was the paradigm shift. In the over a hundred years of innovation, the original concepts have been taken even further. What these healing innovators offer is a new perspective on health. The industrialized model of the body as a machine has been replaced with the concept of the body as an intelligent organization of consciousness. Osteopathy is a primary care profession, focusing on the diagnosis, treatment, prevention and rehabilitation of musculoskeletal disorders, and the effects of these conditions on patients' general health. Using many of the diagnostic procedures applied in conventional medical assessment, osteopaths seek to restore the optimal functioning of the body, where possible without the use of drugs or surgery. Osteopathy is based on the principle that the body has the ability to heal, and osteopathic care focuses on strengthening the musculoskeletal systems to treat existing conditions and prevent illness. Osteopaths' patient-centred approach to health and well-being means they consider symptoms in the context of the patient's full medical history, as well as their lifestyle and personal circumstances. This holistic approach ensures that all treatment is tailored to the individual patient.
