A full-time mechanical design draughtsman is required to ensure that all project specific parts, assemblies and documents are available for production when required, allowing the scheduled manufacture of products on time, within budget, to a high standard. This is an excellent opportunity for a designer looking to develop their skills and knowledge with an expanding manufacturer of innovative electromechanical systems across a wide range of industries.

For this Draughtsman position, you will need the following:

  • A sound understanding of mechanical engineering, with good knowledge of machined parts, fabricated assemblies and sheet metal
  • The ability to quickly and effectively create part and assembly drawings in accordance with BS8888
  • The ability to prioritise workload
  • Excellent working knowledge of Solidworks 3D CAD or similar
  • Able to produce effective, detailed manufacturing information on time
  • Working knowledge of Machinery Standards and relevant legislation
  • Able to work as part of a small team
  • Excellent communication skills

As a Draughtsman, your duties will include:

  • Creation of detailed drawings of custom parts
  • Source supplier quotes for custom-made parts, within the timescale and budget
  • Procurement of custom-made and project-specific parts, within the timescale and budget
  • Creation of BOMs for special products,
  • Creation of assembly drawings/work instructions for manufacture
  • Creation of custom manuals and other technical documents
  • Supplier liaison, to ensure required parts are available when requested and to communicate information on shortages/delays to production promptly
  • Workshop liaison, working with Workshop Supervisor to assist in the planning and execution of production such that sales orders are fulfilled on time, to the right specification and quality
  • Maintenance of Drawings for continuous improvement of standard
  • Occasional assembly, as required, to enable review the design and manufacture of parts
