SF Recruitment is proud to collaborate with a distinguished company situated in Ilkeston. Our client is a trailblazing organisation committed to environmental sustainability and innovation. They seek a dedicated individual to contribute to their mission as an Environmental Officer, on a full-time, permanent basis.

Based at their headquarters in Ilkeston, Derbyshire, you'll report directly to the company Directors. Your role involves efficiently managing and coordinating environmental activities for the company, both at the head office and on sites, ensuring timely achievement of all agreed targets and activities. As an Environmental Officer, you will be instrumental in implementing and overseeing environmental initiatives within the organisation. Your responsibilities include ensuring compliance with environmental regulations, devising strategies to minimise environmental impact, and advocating sustainable practices across all operational domains.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide support to our contracts/construction team by developing and delivering Environmental Plans to ensure full compliance.
  • Enhance the Quality, Safety, and Environmental culture of the company by maintaining and enhancing our UKAS accredited ISO 14001 Environmental management systems.
  • Collaborate closely with management, clients, and project stakeholders to achieve contract objectives, refine processes and procedures, and implement effective compliance management practices.
  • Train and develop our team on our Integrated Management System (IMS) and legislative requirements.
  • Maintain an audit regime for statutory and environmental compliance.
  • Ensure all staff are acquainted with our environmental systems of work, adhere to them, and receive adequate training.
  • Develop and deliver environmental plans, subsequently monitoring them to support operational objectives.
  • Collaborate with Directors and Contracts Team to foster a positive environmental culture.
  • Lead in verifying Legal Compliance.
  • Organise environmental calendar events for consistency and continuous improvement.
  • Update and revise systems as necessary to ensure site compliance with legislation and company policy.
  • Manage the Audit Programme to monitor compliance and maintain external accreditation requirements.
  • Support the business in managing complex/high-risk environmental issues through guidance and coaching.
  • Provide detailed monthly reports to inform management of environmental strategy, policy, and product development.
  • Hold an IEMA Foundation Certificate in Environmental Management.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • 5-10 years' experience in the field.
  • Qualification/Experience in CDM 2015 Regulations.
  • Experience in a complex, commercial, multi-divisional organisation.
  • Experience in ISO14001 audits.
  • Solid and current knowledge of practical environmental principles, practices, and legislation.
  • Thorough understanding of statutory compliance.
  • Sound understanding of construction and project-related safety aspects.
  • Ability to engage with individuals at all levels.
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal).
  • Well-organised with keen attention to detail.
  • Strong decision-making abilities.
  • Valid Driving Licence.
