This is an opportunity for an experienced commercially minded External Affairs Manager to join a Mansfield based organisation who offer a range of services which benefit the construction/trade sector with an eye on low Carbon Technologies.

You will be responsible for the overall management, organisation, and coordination of all External Affairs for the organisation.

Role Overview

This position is focussed on raising the all-round profile of Organisation within key sectors, to be achieved through the creation of relevant copy, shared via blogs, newsletters, internal briefing comms and with other relevant bodies and stakeholders.

You will also be responsible for monitoring the activities of Government and other relevant working groups and organisations, providing strategic communications advice and delivering comprehensive strategy reports. You will be part of a wider Commercial team and be supported by Heads, Marketing and the graphic design team. You will also be responsible for the direct management of one other staff member in a communications officer role.

Your key responsibilities will include:

Monitoring proceedings and provide analysis of activities in Parliament, government departments, European institutions, political parties, local government, think tanks, pressure groups, non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and other bodies to keep the business informed of any developments related to their field of activity. You will also coordinate responses to key government consultations.

Reading parliamentary publications and printed transcripts, and monitor other activities such as debates, questions, committee enquiries, statements, reports, regulations and legislation. This will also require researching, forecasting and evaluating the effects of public policy on an organisation using public sources, political intelligence and personal contacts.

From a communications perspective, you will be responsible for writing newsletters, blogs, press releases and initiate infographics and provide media management and other publicity activities. This will include providing policy and external affairs copy for a quarterly magazine.

Other duties will include coordinating Group Policy meetings and arranging, managing and facilitating external events driven by campaign objectives.

About You

You will have a strong and passionate interest in, and enthusiasm for, politics, policy issues and current affairs coupled with excellent research and communication (written and oral) skills.

To be successful in this role, you will be experienced in producing clear, persuasive, and accurate written and oral communications. Strong analytical skills and the ability to synthesise information rapidly and accurately from different sources would also be helpful. You will be able to craft accurate content with commitment to accuracy and taking care in tone and positioning.
