Gifford and Partners have been appointed to recruit a Commercial Financial Controller on behalf of a leading Manufacturing/Engineering business based in West Yorkshire. Having recently had PE investment (preannouncement) they are looking to bolster the commercial offering within the business by appointing a Commercial Financial Controller. This role will report to the Finance Director and likely become a successor option down the line. The role will support sizable growth, international operations and partner between finance and operations bridging the gap and transparency whilst providing a moral compass and direction on the numbers. Other responsibilities will include and not be limited to;

  • Develop financial forecasts, budgets, and strategic plans to support business objectives. This involves analysing financial data, market trends, and operational metrics to provide insights for decision-making.
  • Oversee the preparation and analysis of financial reports, including monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements. Ensuring compliance with accounting standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Monitoring and controlling costs across various functions, such as production, distribution, and marketing. Identifying opportunities for cost optimisation and efficiency improvements.
  • Analyse product profitability, customer profitability, and pricing strategies. Evaluating the financial impact of new products, promotions, and business initiatives.
  • Manage cash flow, working capital, and liquidity to support day-to-day operations and strategic investments.
  • Develop key performance indicators (KPIs) and dashboard reports to track business performance against targets. Providing actionable insights to drive performance improvements.
  • Collaborating with cross-functional teams, such as sales, marketing, operations, and procurement, to align financial goals with business objectives. Providing financial expertise and support for decision-making.
  • Contributing to the development of financial strategies and initiatives to drive growth, profitability, and competitive advantage. Evaluating investment opportunities and capital allocation decisions.
  • Leverage financial systems and technology tools to streamline processes, improve efficiency, and enhance financial reporting capabilities.
  • Leading a team of finance professionals, providing guidance, coaching, and mentorship. Developing talent and fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement.

Essentially this role is targeting a qualified ACA/ACMA/ACCA with specific manufacturing/FMCG exposure able to contribute and work in a pacy and change hungry business. Overall, the Commercial Financial Controller plays a critical role in driving financial performance and supporting the commercial success of the business within the dynamic and competitive FMCG industry.
