Parkinson Lee Executive Search are the retained partner to an industry leading manufacturing business based in the Midlands, in the appointment of a commercially focused Managing Director. Our client is part of a £75M t/o group of businesses owned by Private Equity.

Reporting to and working closely with the Group CEO and wider leadership team, you will be responsible for the full P&L of a c£12 million turnover business and tasked with overseeing its commercial growth strategy.

The company is going through a period of transformation and is poised for significant expansion over the next 3 years through several routes, including new product launches, expanding export sales, and increasing new domestic sales channels.

This role would require someone to be onsite in the Midlands, ideally 4 days per week, with travel to their customer portfolio nationally and internationally (when required).

We are looking to identify individuals with Furniture, Textiles, Seating, Medical Products or Healthcare sector experience.

As the Managing Director you will:

  • Actively participate in driving double-digit annual sales growth whilst driving monthly performance of the businesses and being in complete control of cash and margins
  • Working closely with the business leadership teams on short, medium and long-term strategy incorporating sales development and new product launches
  • Be a role model to the Management Team actively developing and mentoring both as a group and on an individual basis
  • Supporting the operations director to deliver improvements and efficiencies across the manufacturing site to improve efficiency and margins
  • Strengthen systems, processes and controls where required and enforce daily disciplines into all areas of the business
  • Drive effective management of working capital, specifically cash collection and stock
  • Ensure strategic alignment with the Group and maximise cost synergies
  • Comply with Group reporting requirements

Parkinson Lee Executive Search are looking to speak with commercial business leaders with the following skills & experience:

  • A successful and proven track record of profitably growing a manufacturing business, whilst being fully accountable for the P&L and all commercial outputs
  • An individual from either the Furniture, Textiles, Seating, Medical Products or Healthcare industries is essential
  • We will also consider strong Commercial Directors without full P&L responsibility that come from the above sectors only
  • A solid Pricing, Product and Customer focus
  • Experience of working within an SME environment, whilst being part of a larger group of businesses
  • Strong strategic leadership experience, an individual capable of identifying opportunities and turning them into reality
  • Effective financial management capability
  • A transformation mentality with experience of working in challenging environments
  • Exposure to international operations (would be advantageous)
  • Exceptional leadership skills, with proven history of managing high performing teams
  • Experience of working in Private Equity backed company with an understanding of the value drivers in such a business would be advantageous
  • Office based in the West Midlands - 4 days per week as a minimum
