Mechanical Assembler/Fitter
Bedford
Permanent – Immediate start

Up to £25,000 per annum

6am to 2.30pm (2.30pm to 11pm may be required)

We are seeking a dedicated Mechanical Assembler/Fitter to join our Bedford based client’s team. The successful candidate will be responsible for assembling component parts to create finished assemblies, adhering to both in-house and customer specifications.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Review the priority build board and select the necessary parts kit for assembly.
  • Determine assembly procedures based on parts lists, work instructions, and drawings.
  • Verify kits for accuracy and address discrepancies with stores or supervisors.
  • Operate the overhead travelling gantry crane and ensure correct slinging procedures for large items.
  • Assemble and test products as per specifications, maintaining cleanliness and precision.
  • Report any errors in components or assembly difficulties to supervision, and address tool or measuring equipment deficiencies.
  • Maintain safety standards and good housekeeping in work areas, using provided PPE at all times. Report health and safety concerns to the supervisor or health and safety representative.
  • Support ISO 9001 requirements and contribute to the implementation of ABS, the continuous improvement process.

Skills and Experience Requirements:

  • Proficiency in reading and working from engineering drawings.
  • Good manual dexterity and experience in building assemblies.
  • Ability to work efficiently to meet deadlines with a high attention to detail.
  • Flexibility, hard work, and the ability to prioritise tasks.
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure and work well in a team with a proactive approach.
  • Education at GCSE level or equivalent.
  • Previous experience in a similar assembly environment.

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to stand, walk, sit, lift, and use hands during job performance.
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Manual lifting requirements:
    • Regularly lift and/or move up to 5 kg.
    • Frequently lift and/or move up to 10 kg.
    • Occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 kg.
