Avocet Commercial Careers is excited to present an excellent opportunity for an experienced Payroll Assistant to join an award-winning accountancy practice.

This permanent, full-time/part-time role is available in their Axminster, Bideford, Exeter, Plymouth, or Weston-Super-Mare offices, offering flexibility and the chance to be part of a well-established and reputable organisation.

As a Payroll Assistant, you will be responsible for processing payroll from end to end, utilising your strong understanding of payroll operations.

Payroll Assistant Responsibilities:
  • Collecting, compiling, and entering payroll data using appropriate software
  • Calculating and posting payroll deductions
  • Processing payroll by established deadlines
  • Reconciling employee deductions
  • Investigating and correcting payroll discrepancies and errors
  • Updating payroll records, including changes related to auto-enrolment pensions, loan payments, and salary increases
  • Processing new employees, terminations, and transfers
  • Calculating holiday entitlement
  • Preparing and printing payroll reports for earnings, hours worked, PAYE tax, National Insurance, auto-enrolment pension, and holiday
  • Addressing employee pay-related concerns and providing accurate payroll information
  • Developing, managing, and maintaining comprehensive payroll records
  • Ensuring compliance with HMRC regulations and guidelines
  • Assisting with general office administration duties as required
Payroll Assistant Requirements:
  • Experience in payroll processing
  • CIPP qualification (preferred but not essential, as qualified by experience will also be considered)
  • Good working knowledge of Word, Excel, Brightpay, Xero, QuickBooks, and Sage
  • Experience in a practice-based environment (preferred but not essential)
  • Analytical, methodical, and numerical skills
  • Positive attitude, friendly, and personable
  • Initiative, prioritisation, and ability to meet deadlines in a pressured environment
  • Professional and team-oriented approach
  • Experience in delivering exceptional customer service in an office-based working environment
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with proven accuracy and attention to detail
  • Ability to quickly learn new IT skills
