The Role:

So, what will you be doing as a Programme Manager?

  • Effectively oversee a portfolio of related projects within a business stream, providing strong leadership to Project Managers to ensure alignment with customer requirements and achievement of business objectives including schedule adherence, budget management, timely deliveries, risk mitigation, sales targets, margin optimization, and securing new business opportunities.
  • Manage all customer interfaces, and communicate effectively to Senior Management, team members and peers to establish a common understanding of programme performance and plan for successful programme execution.
  • Work closely with the Program Finance team to meet key financial objectives and ensure clear and accurate financial reporting.
  • Prioritise, co-ordinate and plan the project portfolio activities to achieve all agreed business objectives and delivery milestones.
  • Provide an escalation route for project issues, risks, and key decisions.
  • Personally oversee large, high-profile, or complex projects as required, ensuring their successful management and delivery.
  • Lead the preparation of bids, including the provision of accurate cost and schedule information.
  • Provide oversight and governance to ensure effective project planning, programme execution, evaluation and management of project risks, accurate progress reporting, and adherence to project management processes and project gate reviews.
  • Liaise with other functional leads within the business to enable strong cross-functional communication and joint decision-making.
  • Support the Supply Chain team in identification, management and development of key sub-contracts and suppliers.
  • Formulate effective succession plans and review regularly to ensure the skills and knowledge required to fulfil key roles are met through continuous training, development and mentoring in line with OSDP requirements.

What are we looking for in our next Programme Manager?

  • Experienced Programme Manager with a successful track record in setting up and executing full lifecycle product development.
  • Holds a degree in Business/Engineering, complemented by practical expertise in Project Management methodologies.
  • Knowledge and practical experience of best practice in Project Management techniques.
  • Demonstrated success in leading and supervising teams to achieve project objectives.
  • Experience of the commercial elements of project management, including managing contracts and supporting bids & proposals.
  • Possesses strong problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to addressing complex challenges.
  • Ability to liaise with internal and external stakeholders to ensure project success.
  • Capable of making informed decisions under pressure and exercising sound judgement consistently.
  • Excellent leadership, delegation and teamwork skills.
  • Possesses exceptional communication, influencing, and persuasive capabilities.
  • High commercial and business awareness, customer focus and sales orientation
  • PC and keyboard literate and working knowledge of project management tools, plus working knowledge of IFS or an equivalent ERP system.
  • APM Chartered Project Professional or equivalent qualification is desirable.
  • A background in the Defence industry is desirable, particularly experience of working within SSRO regulations.
  • Experience of managing multi-disciplined projects with a focus on systems engineering and integration is highly desirable.
