The role

Are you a Lead Engineer, Engineering Manager or Project Engineer inspired to use your skills to make a positive impact on the environment and society through sustainable, large-scale engineering projects? If yes, then you might be the perfect fit for the role of Senior Project Engineer at United Utilities (UU), where you will have the opportunity to lead and motivate teams and drive our environmental protection, sustainability, and efficiency goals in North West England, UK.

As a Senior Project Engineer, you will play a crucial role in leading the catchment delivery of projects for United Utilities. By using your leadership skills and embracing and promoting innovation, especially with new technologies and/or environmental solutions, you will oversee engineering teams from different disciplines to deliver solutions on projects addressing water, nutrient and chemical spill impact on the environment. This will help us to plan future interventions to reduce our impacts on shellfish waters, inland bathing waters and deliver rewilding and re-naturalisation of rivers, peatland and wild water bodies to improve water quality and lock up carbon You will also advise on investment required for inland bathing waters to be designated and provide advice in replumbing planning of some of the UK’s most iconic cities.

In-person site attendance in Lingley Mere, Warrington is required three days per week to promote the benefits of face-to-face collaboration, alongside some travel to other sites in the North West and flexible hours to support work-life balance. Initially, you may be expected to attend more frequently to familiarise yourselves with the site, the team, and your role.

Key accountabilities

  • Cultivate a learning environment by initiating a mentorship scheme, pairing Project Engineers with experienced mentors for skill enhancement and professional growth
  • Enhance project outcomes through strategic collaboration with stakeholders, employing effective communication tools to align team efforts with client objectives
  • Lead engineering excellence by conducting thorough project reviews, refining processes to elevate quality and efficiency across the organization
  • Champion a culture of inclusivity and continuous improvement, promoting team engagement and a positive work atmosphere
  • Represent the engineering department's interests, managing risks and advocating for resources to optimize project execution and performance

Skills & experience
To be successful with your application, you’ll need to show that you meet the following essential criteria:

  • Chartered or Incorporated Engineer or has demonstrable equivalent skills, knowledge and experience
  • Experience of providing technical advice at a senior level, leading the delivery of successful engineering outcomes in multidisciplinary projects and leading/managing an engineering team
  • Hold a current UK/EU driving licence
