Our client is a leading UK rail contractor that specialises in track installations, signalling and rail plant. Due to being awarded multiple projects & frameworks for the foreseeable, they are looking to bring a Senior Quantity Surveyor into the team.

The Senior Quantity Surveyor will play a crucial role in managing the cost aspects of all rail projects, ensuring that they are delivered within budget and to the highest standards of quality. This position offers an excellent opportunity for a talented individual to contribute to the success of our clients' projects and advance their career in the rail sector.

The successful candidate will have experience with NEC suite of contracts and have worked on rail/signalling projects.

Our client would also consider Commercial Manager level candidates.

Senior Quantity Surveyor - Position Overview

  • Oversee the cost management process for rail projects from inception to completion, including budget estimation, cost planning, and cost control.
  • Conduct accurate quantity take-offs and prepare bills of quantities (BOQ) based on project requirements and specifications.
  • Manage the tendering process, including preparing tender documents, evaluating bids, and negotiating contracts with suppliers and subcontractors.
  • Administer contracts and ensure compliance with contractual terms and conditions, including payment certifications, variations, and claims management.
  • Prepare regular cost reports, forecasts, and financial statements to track project expenditure and identify potential risks and opportunities.
  • Identify value engineering opportunities to optimise project costs while maintaining quality and performance standards.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, including project managers, engineers, clients, and subcontractors, to ensure alignment on cost-related matters.
  • Identify, assess, and mitigate project risks related to cost, providing proactive solutions to minimize potential impact on project delivery.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant industry standards, regulations, and best practices to uphold the quality and integrity of project cost management processes.

Senior Quantity Surveyor - Position Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in quantity surveying, Civil Engineering, or related field. Professional certification (e.g., MRICS) is preferred.
  • Proven experience as a Quantity Surveyor in the rail sector.
  • In-depth knowledge of quantity surveying principles, cost management techniques, and construction contracts within the rail industry.
  • NEC suite of contracts (essential)
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex data and financial information.
  • Strong leadership capabilities with experience in mentoring and developing junior team members.
  • Commitment to upholding ethical standards and professional integrity in all dealings.
