JOB TITLE:

Specification Technologist – 3 month fixed term contract

Strong technical understanding of chilled multi-component products (i.e. Ready meals, Sauces, Ready to Eat products)

BRIEF DESCRIPTION:

Create and update accurate product retail specifications, to ensure that products comply with all relevant legislation. To analyse and assess raw material specifications to ensure compliance with retailers standards.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Using new product documentation and raw material specifications to generate retailer product specifications that are technically and legally compliant and fit the brand requirements.
  • Assess raw material specifications to review compliance against retailer standards and requirements. Communicate with Technical team to ensure approval of raw material specifications in terms of: food safety, legality and integrity.
  • Liaise with customers and/or suppliers regarding any specification related queries.
  • Communicate with the site technical specification team, working together to achieve product critical paths for specification completion
  • Liaison within the Technical team and other departments to obtain accurate information required to complete specifications.

QUALIFICATIONS / EXPERIENCE: 

  • Strong technical understanding of chilled multi-component products (i.e. Ready meals, Sauces, Ready to Eat products)
  • Technical knowledge regarding retailer requirements for specifications regarding Food Safety, Allergens, Legality in product labeling and ingredient declarations.
  • Experience of retail spec systems – M&S in particular
  • 4 – 5 years’ experience minimum writing retail specifications
