Trainee Camera Operator

Do you have a keen interest in horse racing? This could be the perfect opportunity for you! This is a unique opportunity for someone who has a passion for horse racing based in South West London and is willing to obtain HGV Class 2 license to progress within the role.

You will also be trained to operate race coverage cameras, as well as rigging operation and de-rigging of cameras. There are opportunities for you to learn new skills including photo finish, public address, and presentation cameras.

Contractual operating base is Raynes Park, South West London (SW20)

Spring/Summer working hours between 45-50 hrs per week over the week and any 5 days out of 7.

Autumn/Winter shorter hours around 35hrs per week again any 5 days out of 7.

As a Trainee Camera Operator your roles & responsibilities would be:

  • Interest in live-sports broadcast, an interest in horse-racing is a big plus.
  • Willing to learn how to operate broadcast cameras, the job will be a mix of driving HGVs to/from location and operating camera equipment on site.
  • Physically fit, you must be comfortable working at heights, in isolation and exposed to the elements, with good interpersonal skills to communicate effectively and be part of a team.
  • You must have a keen interest in or knowledge of horse racing and any exposure to live sports broadcasting is desirable as is any experience with cameras, lenses or photography.
  • A willingness to learn and develop is key. You must also be prepared to travel and to work evenings, weekends, and Bank Holidays.
  • Additionally, you will be trained to operate race coverage cameras and in our OB operations including the safe rigging, operation and de-rigging of cameras along with hoist vehicles and other OB equipment.
  • The role will also include a variety of general OB tasks to ensure the smooth operation and delivery of all technical services to our racecourses and broadcast partners.
  • Candidates with the right approach can also learn other skills e.g. photo finish, public address, and presentation cameras.

Extras:

  • Working rota given 3 months in advance
  • overnight travel with all accommodation fully paid with a £25 meal allowance.
  • opportunity for Overtime, any hours worked over 11 hrs per day will be paid as overtime and extra working days will be on offer also.
  • Introduction into television Broadcasting.


What skills and Expertise do you require?

  • Minimum 3 years of holding category B license (road experience) and willingness to obtain HGV Class 2 license.
  • A willingness to learn and develop is a key. You must also be prepared to travel and to work evenings, weekends, and Bank Holidays.

Trainee Camera Operator Salary:

Within 1st year in employment £25 000 per annum

From 2nd year in employment £30 000 per annum
