You will be joining other costs draftspersons and Lawyers working closely with the head of department. Responsibilities: * Take instruction from the Fee Earners and Solicitors, manage a caseload of multi-track Clinical Negligence (claimant) costs files from inception to completion. While keeping the Solicitors and fee earners up to date of the progress. * Instructing counsel. * Drafting budgets for Clinical Negligence cases. Preparing bills of costs and assess recoverable costs. * Provide general advice, costs estimates, * Negotiating settlements * Prepare all kinds of Costs documents such as Precedent H/T, Electronic bills, N260, prepare for details assessment proceedings, drafting point of dispute and replies. Essential Experience:* Ability to meet financial targets while maintaining high standard of client care. * Proficient user of Costs Master as well as general IT software such as Excel, Outlook and word. * Experience costs draftsman at least 1 year. * Experience drafting budgets, negotiations, bills of costs in Clinical Negligence. * Experience handling multi track clinical negligence files. Occasional office attendance required but there are no set days you must go in. Job Reference: CWS341RESPONSIBILITIES* Manage a caseload of multi-track clinical negligence and personal injury costs files, including high-value and complex claims such as birth injuries, brain injuries, and other catastrophic matters.* Draft a full range of legal costs documents including Bills of Costs, Budgets (e.g., Precedent H/T), Points of Dispute (PODs), Replies, N260s, and Applications.* Prepare for detailed assessment proceedings and assess recoverable costs.* Provide clear and accurate costs advice and estimates throughout the lifecycle of each case.* Negotiating technical costs disputes, predominantly handling receiving party clinical negligence and personal injury cases.* Negotiate settlements with opposing parties and liaise with solicitors, external counsel, and other stakeholders to ensure swift and fair resolution.* Instruct counsel when required for advocacy or complex negotiation matters.* Maintain compliance with Service Level Agreements (SLAs), Legal Aid and Standard costs processes, and key performance indicators (KPIs).* Demonstrate excellent communication, negotiation, and organisational skills to manage a varied workload and meet competing demandsRequired Skills and Experience:* At least 1 year experience independently running your own caseload of personal injury or clinical negligence cost files under minimal to no supervision. Ideally you will have 5+ years experience with the ability to hit the ground running but there are two positions available so they're open on the level of experience you have. * Proven experience in costs drafting for clinical negligence and personal injury cases, ideally high-value and complex claims.* Strong background in drafting Bills of Costs, Budgets, Points of Dispute, Replies, and Applications. Expertise in negotiating technical costs disputes in receiving party claims.* Ability to manage a multi-track caseload from inception to completion. * Strong communication and negotiation skills, with experience liaising with solicitors, counsel, and external parties.* Proficiency with case management systems and managing cost assessments and recovery processes.
