AI CVs: How AI could help you land your dream job

AI CVs

AI can answer your questions, check your code, and even provide you with relationship advice. But can it help you get a job?

There’s no denying the growing popularity of the concept of Artificial Intelligence (AI). One of the most popular AI-based tools, ChatGPT, already has over 200 million monthly active users worldwide. This revolutionary tool has the power to answer questions, rewrite copy, and provide explanations on pretty much any topic you can think of. With this functionality in mind, it’s no surprise that many job seekers turn to it to get help with their CVs and job applications.

And while we don’t recommend using ChatGPT (or any other tool) to write your entire CV from scratch, when used correctly, it can be a huge help when it comes to streamlining your job search.

Here’s how AI could help you land your dream job:

It can reduce the length of your CV

If you struggle with keeping your CV to the advised length of two pages, you might benefit from some AI fuelled summarisation. Simply input the section of your CV that you think could be condensed, and ask it to make the copy more engaging or succinct. You can even specify a word count if needed.

It can match your skills to a job description

AI tools can analyse a job description alongside your own key skills, allowing you to highlight your most relevant skills and experiences in your CV. By identifying keywords and phrases commonly used in the job listing, AI ensures your CV is able to clearly match the requirements of the role.

It can give your CV a spell-check

Grammar and spelling errors can undermine even the most qualified candidates. AI-powered tools can proofread your CV, catching any mistakes that you might overlook. This not only ensures a polished final product but also demonstrates your attention to detail and professionalism to potential employers. But remember: while AI is an extremely useful tool, it doesn’t replace a human, meaning you should always give your CV a final sense-check before submitting your applications.

It can remove and replace repeated words or phrases

In the world of CVs, it can be all too easy to use the same words and potentially clichéd phrases over and over again. To make sure your CV isn’t repetitive, just ask an AI tool to remove or replace any repeated words or phrases, or ask it for synonyms for the words you’re overusing.

It can optimise your CV for Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS’)

Some companies use ATS’ to screen CVs before they reach human recruiters. These systems can filter out CVs that don’t meet certain criteria, meaning your application might never be seen by a human if it isn’t optimised correctly. AI can help by ensuring your CV includes the right keywords and phrases that an ATS looks for, increasing the chances of your application passing the initial screening.

It can highlight your key achievements

AI can analyse your career history and pinpoint your most significant achievements. By showcasing these accomplishments prominently, AI helps you present a compelling narrative about your professional journey. This can be particularly useful if you struggle to identify your strengths or articulate your successes.
