The Edinburgh Woollen company has grown substantially since it was first created in 1946, it can now be considered as the best mid-market performer in the sector, delivering good consistent growth.

The Group has continued to invest in acquisitions and in the recent years has added to its portfolio. It has acquired the assets of Ponden Mill and Rosebys (which have been re-branded as Ponden Home with 91 stores nationwide), Proquip (the famous sponsor of the Ryder Cup European Tour, specializing in the very best waterproof clothing) and most recently Jane Norman (the high street young fashion brand with 78 stores and a strong international presence).

Our Product…

We are closely involved in every aspect of the product development cycle - from processing raw material, through production of yarn and cloth to the design and manufacture of the garment, and finally to the sale in our shops. By maintaining total control in this way, we have built a reputation for providing the finest quality product at the best possible value.

Our Stores

The Edinburgh Woollen Mill has 265 mainstream high street stores, 88 speciality tourist shops and 27 destination sites throughout the UK.

  • High Street - we have 265 mainstream high street stores selling ladies and menswear. Outlets are located in a wide variety of market and provincial towns, 70 per cent of which are positioned south of Birmingham.
  • Tourist Shops and Visitor Centres - we have 88 speciality tourist stores, where gift items and other products reflect the stores location. The outlets, which trade under an individual, often local, fascia, are in key tourist locations throughout the UK - 60 per cent of which are in Scotland. Many stores are on busy tourist routes and benefit from coach visits where food service and exhibitions are all part of the attraction.
  • Destination Shopping - There are 27 destination sites which contain all of the Group's concepts and other brands to increase their attractiveness as a retail destination. The sites trade under local, individual fascias such as Antartex Village, Masson Mill, Kernow Mill, Mackinnon Mills, and as anchor tenants in larger developments like Wilton Shopping Village.
  • Online - Our online store opened in October 2008 and continues our commitment to providing the finest quality products at the best possible value, now available to order from the comfort of your home.

Who you'll work with

THE COMPANY

The company headquarters are in Langholm, approximately 25 miles drive from Carlisle, in Dumfries & Galloway. Carlisle has a principal station on the West Coast main line from London Euston and sits on the M6 motorway. This location provides ready access to the major facilities expected of a city, combined with the possibility of living in one of the finest countryside areas in the UK.

Almost every conceivable type of outdoors and countryside activity is at hand. There are fishing rivers, hill walking areas and golf courses nearby. The Lake District is a short drive away. Boating facilities are available on the Solway Firth, in the Lake District and on Kielder Water (30 miles away). Langholm also has a fine tradition of rugby. The close proximity of the Border provides access to either the English or Scottish schooling systems.

MANAGERS

We are always interested to hear from enthusiastic retail professionals who are excellent communicators and motivators, with a keen eye for detail and a flair for merchandise presentation.

The main remit of our store Managers is to optimise the profitability of the store by creating and maximising sales opportunities through merchandising and staff training and development. With sound retail Management skills gained from a fast moving retail environment our store Managers need to be real enthusiasts who can stamp their personalities on our retail outlets.

ASSISTANT MANAGERS

Assistant Managers are vital members of the team, working hand-in-hand with the Store Manager leading and developing the sales team. They are involved in sales generation, staff Management and development as well as stock control.
