Overview

The APM Project Management Qualification is their flagship qualification for those with 2-5 years’ experience, or those undertaking a project management degree or apprenticeship. It is a knowledge-based qualification that will enable you to demonstrate knowledge of all elements of project management. You will be able to demonstrate an understanding of how these elements interact and how your project fits not your strategic and commercial environment.

Total qualification time is approximately 75 hours which includes approximately 32 hours of guided learning.

10 x half-day live sessions delivered virtually or in-person
0930 – 1630 each day
6-8 hours on-demand learning
30 minute coaching session (optional extra for team delivery)

The exam is 2.5 hours in length and is in two parts, with an optional break of up to 30 minutes in between. Booking of the exam is flexible to allow the delegates to book when they are ready.

From September 2024, the qualification syllabus is based on the APM Competence Framework and the sessions will include discussions, exercises, case studies and example questions. Content is grouped into four main areas within the APM Competence Framework, of which there are 24 learning objectives that reflect the competency criteria:

Who is this course for?

The APM Project Management Qualification is designed for people who already have some knowledge, understanding or experience of project management and are looking to move deeper into a project management career. If you’re a practising project professional, have taken some project management qualifications, or just want to refine your understanding of project management then this qualification is right for you. It’s also the ideal next step for anyone holding the APM Project Fundamentals Qualification.

There are no specific requirements for experience or other qualifications that you must have before studying for the APM Project Management Qualification.

However, you will most likely:

  • Be working in a project environment.
  • Have two to three years of experience as a project professional or be actively undertaking a project management apprenticeship or degree.
  • Be looking to progress your career and improve your employability.
  • Be interested in learning about all areas of project management and not a particular methodology.

If you don’t already have any of the experiences referred to above, you might want to take our APM Project Fundamentals Qualification before studying for the APM Project Management Qualification

Requirements

Learners will be given a copy of the APM PMQ official study guide approximately 4 weeks before the start of the course. Along with this, they will also receive a pre-course guide and study plan. Our advice is to follow the study plan and do as much pre-work as possible (between 15 and 20 hours of study time), to give you the best chance of success.

Delegates will also need to visit our web-based Learner Portal to complete their course and exam registration. Please note that this course requires some structured self-study during the course to cover the material contained within the exam.

Study method describes the format in which the course will be delivered. A regulated qualification is delivered by a learning institution which is regulated by a government body. In England, the government body which regulates courses is Ofqual. Ofqual regulated qualifications sit on the Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF), which can help students understand how different qualifications in different fields compare to each other. The framework also helps students to understand what qualifications they need to progress towards a higher learning goal, such as a university degree or equivalent higher education award.

An endorsed course is a skills based course which has been checked over and approved by an independent awarding body. Endorsed courses are not regulated so do not result in a qualification - however, the student can usually purchase a certificate showing the awarding body's logo if they wish. Certain awarding bodies - such as Quality Licence Scheme and TQUK - have developed endorsement schemes as a way to help students select the best skills based courses for them.
