Overview

The aim is to provide an awareness and develop the knowledge amongst employees as regards the hazards and risks posed by ACMs. The course further gives an overview of the legislative measures in place to permit employees to safeguard themselves and others affected by work activities.

Description

We will explain the properties of asbestos and its effects on the health of individuals, the types, uses and likely occurrences of asbestos and asbestos containing materials (ACMs) in buildings and plant, the general procedures to be followed in the event of an emergency and how to avoid the risks from ACMs.

Who is this course for?

This course is aimed at staff and managers

  • If you have no intention of removing asbestos but work on buildings built or refurbished before the year 2000, asbestos could be present. You will need awareness training so you know how to avoid the risks.
  • If you have contact with service users who may be reporting asbestos risks, e.g. contact centre staff. This group have minimal responsibilities in regards to asbestos but still need to be aware of what advice to give out to the public
  • If you may come into contact with asbestos as part of your work, you may visit homes or council properties and may be able to identify risks but are not required to do anything about them beyond reporting them.
  • If you work in the vicinity of asbestos that is contained and at no risk but need to be aware of it.
