Description
Course Structure: Level 4 Diploma in Business:
There are four compulsory modules, plus a non-credit Academic Writing course.
You must complete Academic Writing first, followed by Introduction to Business, plus the other three modules in any order. Please click on the links to each module, to view what you will cover in each one.
Academic Writing – non credit.
Learn the fundamentals of academic writing. This course aims to teach the fundamentals of academic writing for study and business purposes. Writing tasks are often a day to day duty of any professional, whether they are at a supervisory level or top level management. These tasks can include writing procedures, proposals and reports; they might require specialized knowledge such as scientific writing or reviewing; they could be editing tasks, as professionals may at some time need to review and edit other peoples writing. Understand the differences between the Harvard and Chicago styles of referencing. Students, on the other hand, are expected to write in a way that demonstrates their understanding of concepts and theories, their ability to discuss implications of theory, and their ability to communicate complex ideas logically and clearly.
Introduction to Business – 120 hours.
This unit aims to give learners a sound understanding of: Business objectives, resources and accountability. The structure and classification of business. The external environment. The scale and location of production, different production processes. Marketing strategy, marketing planning and market research. Accounting concepts and sources of finance. HR planning.
Principles of Marketing – 150 hours.
Marketing as a discipline has its critics. These are the people who think of marketing as being a “poison pack” which is responsible for all the evils in the world – mainly because of criticisms relating to the effects of advertising. However, marketing also has its devotees. Some people see marketing as a “magic wand”; they think that when a company has problems all they need to do is to get in a marketing manager and all the problems will disappear. Neither of these viewpoints is correct. Marketing is now recognized almost as a science. It is seen as a logical approach to business which involves the studying, and understanding, of relationships and exchanges between buyers and sellers.
Introduction In Quantitative Methods – 120 hours.
This unit aims to give learners a sound understanding of: Numeracy and business calculations. Algebraic methods. Graphs, charts and diagrams. The use of statistical methods to supply business and management information. The laws of probability.
Accounting for Financial Managers – 120 hours.
To enable the learner to understand key concepts of accounting for Financial Managers A business proprietor normally runs a business to make money. He or she needs information to know whether the business is doing well. The owner of a business might ask the following questions: How much profit or loss has the business made? How much money do I owe? Will I have sufficient funds to meet my commitments? The purpose of conventional business accounting is to provide the answers to such questions by presenting a summary of the transactions of the business in a standard form.
Each lesson culminates in an assignment which is submitted to the Academy, marked by the Academy's tutors and returned to you with any relevant suggestions, comments, and if necessary, extra reading.
