Overview

The Canine Business Diploma Course is designed for anyone that runs, or plans to run, a dog-focussed business. Whether this is in canine behaviour, canine holistic therapy, canine nutrition, dog grooming, dog training, dog walking, running a kennel/pet sitting, dog day care, puppy training or something else dog-related, this course will guide you through not only maintaining, but growing, your business.

Working in these professions, your main motivation is in the care of the animals that you are charged with and of the owners who bring them to you. It is understandable that the focus may not be so much on the business side of things. It is essential, however, to get this right, as this will enable you to give professional, high quality care on a larger scale and help others to work in the industry that you enjoy (or hope to enjoy if you are just starting out).

Explicitly created for those who work in canine care, the Canine Business Diploma Course is written in a simple way that won't baffle or confuse and will aid your understanding of areas such as multi skilling, marketing, growing an online presence, writing, and a great deal more.

Description

What You'll Learn from the Canine Business Diploma Course

This course guides you through 8 in-depth modules:

  1. Your Plan
  2. Belief
  3. Multiskilling
  4. Seize Your Immediate Market
  5. Online Marketing
  6. Online Business
  7. People
  8. Law, Taxes, and Finances

The first module of the course dives straight in, by providing students with the tools they need to grow their dog care business. Here you will learn more about your own business by outlining where the business is now, while utilising professional business planning to set up goals for where you want the business to be and the way in which you will achieve this. A template of a fully comprehensive business plan is included here for you to use and from which you can start creating your own targets.

Success is not arrived at easily, every journey has its pitfalls, but the difference between success and failure is often down to one simple element: belief. Belief drives us forward and picks us up when we falter. The second module of the Canine Business Diploma Course discusses how important it is to believe in yourself and overcome your doubts. Students are given examples of those who have been knocked back but picked themselves up to achieve amazing things (some of whom may surprise you) and talks about the psychology behind self-belief and the importance of this, as well as providing you with some practical exercises in cultivating belief that you can use daily.

Whilst it is good to have a focus in business it is also important to diversify and by multiskilling you are not only varying your role but also providing additional services to existing customers, whilst also giving yourself the opportunity to gain new clients in a new field, while still focussing on canine care.

For example, a dog walker could become a behaviour practitioner, a kennel owner could offer dog training or dog grooming as an additional or standalone service, and so on. Module 3 exposes owners of canine businesses to other areas in which they can branch out and talks about what is involved in each specialism.

The fourth module of the Canine Business Course discusses the act of marketing to the right people in the right way, when growing a business. Here students will be exposed to a marketing plan, which they can use and adapt to their own businesses. The module also talks about developing a strategy for business growth.

The use of the internet is a massive, and relatively cheap, way of gaining exposure and advertising your business and services. Module 5 guides students through a range of online platforms that, when utilised properly, can make a huge difference to the growth of a company. Platforms such as: having your own website, social media, and blogs, along with understanding SEO and CAP codes are all covered here.

The Canine Business Diploma Course's sixth modules teaches students about adding an online income to their current canine business. This module covers, in-depth, two ways of taking your business to the internet: Active income, where business owners swap their time for money, and Passive and Continual Income, where the business creates one thing, which is sold to many clients.

One of the most important parts of of any business, is people. Module 7 discusses how the people involved in a business and developing good relationships with these people, are paramount to success. This module includes information about nurturing your relationships with clients, ensuring the quality of service provided by any employees you may have (including the Code of Practice), employment law, and HM Revenue and Customs.

The eighth module of the Canine Business Diploma Course guides new business owners and those have never truly got to grips with paperwork, through the legal and financial sides of things. This covers areas such as insurance, tax (including some helpful quick tips), the paper work need to create a small business, and ways to secure funding. The course finishes with some practical exercises that will help boost your confidence.

A regulated qualification is delivered by a learning institution which is regulated by a government body. In England, the government body which regulates courses is Ofqual. Ofqual regulated qualifications sit on the Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF), which can help students understand how different qualifications in different fields compare to each other. The framework also helps students to understand what qualifications they need to progress towards a higher learning goal, such as a university degree or equivalent higher education award.

An endorsed course is a skills based course which has been checked over and approved by an independent awarding body. Endorsed courses are not regulated so do not result in a qualification - however, the student can usually purchase a certificate showing the awarding body's logo if they wish. Certain awarding bodies - such as Quality Licence Scheme and TQUK - have developed endorsement schemes as a way to help students select the best skills based courses for them.
