The objective of this self-study course is to provide a comprehensive guide to criminology and examines in detail a range of criminal activity together with detection and prevention methods in common use.

Description
The course is designed for home study or distance learning and is comprised of comprehensive printed course notes presented in an A4 ring binder, together with course assignments and study guide. Tutor support and a student helpline facility are integral to the course, and students have a full 12 months in which to complete their studies. Actual study time will be of the order of 90-100 hours.
The course is divided up into 15 study units, each with one tutor marked assignment to be completed. Each assignment contains approx 8-10 written tasks to be completed which are then submitted to a subject tutor for marking. Where required assignments can be re-submitted after amendment in the event that the assessment standards are not full met on first submission.

Define what Criminology is and have an understanding of the theories used.
2: Criminal Statistics
Study the trends of modern day criminal statistics
3: The UK Justice SystemGain an understanding of the UK Justice system and have reference to key legal terms
4: Understanding Drugs
Describe a large range of drugs, what effects they have, their methods of use, their prevalence, production and marketing and common street names.
5: Understanding Violence
Describe different forms of violence and reasons for it.
6: Understanding Property Crime
Describe different forms of property crime and understand when and where they occur
7: Understanding Crime and the Community
Understanding the role of the community in crime prevention
8: Understanding Trans-national and Organised Crime
Describe various forms of organised and trans-national crime
9: Understanding High Tech Crime
Understand the use of computers and internet technology in support of criminal activities
10: Understanding Crime Prevention
Describe how to focus on the causes of crime and use problem solving tools in order to significantly reduce or eliminate the factors that can to lead crime
11: Understanding Youth CrimeUnderstand why youths turn to crime and why everyone has a role in supporting youth and preventing youth crime.
12: Understanding Anti-Social Behaviour
Describe different forms of anti-social behaviour, who it affects, its long terms effects and approaches to tackling it.
13: Introduction to Forensic Psychology
Describe what Forensic Psychology is, how it works; from basic theories and principles, through research, understanding and explaining results, to the actual application of psychological techniques.
14: Introduction to Criminal Profiling
Understand what is meant by Criminal profiling, and how the use of scientific methods, logical reasoning, sources of information on people, criminology, victimology, and experience or skill is employed to interpret the events that surround the commission of a crime
15: The Theories of Terrorism
Understanding what terrorism is and why it is a deliberate use of violence against civilians for political or religious ends.

There are no study pre-requirements as the course is intended for learners who have not studied this topic beforehand.

Answer:The course s designed for home study at anytime. Students have one year from date of registration and can study at their own pace to complete when they wish. On successful completion you will receive certification from ABC Awards which is a recognised awarding organisation and so can help to meet employment requirements for appropriate posts.
