Unit 1: An Introduction to Criminological Study
In this unit we will introduce you briefly to the main concepts of the study, which will be looked at in greater depth later, and also give an understanding of how criminology works in practice.
Unit 2: Understanding Crime
This unit will provide an overview of these as well as give an introduction to the ways British society constructs its concept of crime and the tools used to do this.
Unit 3: Violent Crime
In this unit, you will learn about how violent crime is categorised and the overall concepts behind theories of violent crime. You will be made aware of the crimes committed by governments and political groups including terrorists.
Unit 4: Crime and Punishment
In this unit, you will learn about a range of approaches to punishment and understand the sociological factors affecting how punishment is seen.
Unit 5: Crime and Justice
This unit looks at the mechanisms of the criminal justice system and the processes to safeguard those involved. The unit also looks at the nature of justice, the different approaches taken and the ways in which it goes wrong including where discrimination takes place.
Unit 6: Managing Crime
This unit will give a brief history of the modern police force and how it came about. We will look at the main UK Acts which affect police practice and determine how the police have been governed in the past and present.
