Description
This Depression Counsellor Diploma Course gives students the knowledge they need to begin a career or go on to further study in the area of counselling for depression. Covering 5 distinct areas within the topic of depression, these being: the causes, types, medications, complementary alternative therapies used and counselling approaches.
The course goes deep into what the causes of depression are: including the emotional changes, psychological changes to the brain, and the environmental factors that can lead to depression. Also discussed are the diseases and illnesses related to depression, risk factors, and how analysing sleep patterns/problems can help a counsellor ascertain the kind of depression an individual has.
‘Depression’ is not stand alone diagnosis, as the term covers numerous types of the condition, with a varying scale of severity. Looking at the various depression rating scales and how they subdivide depressive episodes and symptoms into levels of affliction. Students will learn about depression types and the symptoms of each.
To treat imbalances of chemicals in the brain it is common practice for those in the medical profession to prescribe medication for the various types of depression, though this is to treat the symptoms of the condition, using other techniques to help sufferers with the underlying cause of their condition. Students will learn about the various types of medications used, including the daily doses and possible side effects of each.
Students will learn about various therapies and lifestyle changes that can help those with depression to feel empowered in regaining control of their mental well-being through their involvement in constructive activities and life style management choices.
Finally, students will learn about the wide array of therapeutic approaches used to help patients to manage their depression: from commonly accepted and widely applied practices, such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (often abbreviated to ‘CBT’), to more recent developments in the area, and even some combinations of practices.
This approach gives students the knowledge of the applications, modalities and techniques of each therapy type, along with suggestions for further reading, to further increase understanding in particular areas.
