Description

On completion of the course, students will gain an insight into the world of drug abuse counselling, along with the four stages of drug addiction, triggers for drug abuse, and the role a counsellor plays.

You will learn basic counselling skills, the importance of listening, along with why boundaries are important, and the 9 core counselling skills.

You will look at different types of drug abuse, along with their associated risks, harms, and the street names of certain drugs. You will also look into a case study and the role counselling plays in overcoming addiction.

You will also learn about the challenges faced by drug abuse counsellors, along with safeguarding, and the importance of self-care and supervision.

In order to complete the course, you must achieve 80% or more in the final multiple choice quiz.

You will earn 3 CPD points on completion of the course, this course will take around 3 hours to complete and the certificate will last for two years.

Units covered

  • Unit 1 - Introduction to Drug Abuse Counselling - In the first unit we will cover who the course is suitable for, along with learning what drug abuse is and understanding more about it.
  • Unit 2 - Drug Abuse Counselling Basic Skills - In this unit we will examine the basic counselling skills, such as attending and body language, and focus on the importance of listening skills and expressing empathy.
  • Unit 3 - Types of Drug Abuse - In this unit we look into different types of drugs, along with associated health problems, and look at a case study to illustrate the real-life impact of drug abuse.
  • Unit 4 - The Goals and Challenges of Drug Abuse Counselling - In the final unit we look at counselling beyond the basics, looking at the challenges faced, ethical considerations, and the role of supervision. You will also be provided with useful resources to further your knowledge in the field.

Requirements

You are required to complete a 30 question multiple choice quiz at the end of the course. Where you need to achieve at least 80% or above to pass. You can complete the quiz as many times as you need to pass.
