Official Exam/Assessment:

You will be assessed via paper based exam that you can take at our exam centre. When you will be ready for the official exam there is an additional registration fee of £150 (Excl. VAT) for Pearson Edexcel awarding body to book the official exam.

Compatible Assessment Process

To gauge your comprehension of English skills, this Functional Skills English Entry Level 2 Course will evaluate you via writing and reading tasks, which are internally reviewed by the assessor and monitored and marked by the exam board. Once you complete the test, your results will be sent to Pearson Edexcel's internal verifier. If you successfully complete all three components, the awarding body will provide you with the qualification certificate.

The writing and reading assessments, which are available as a paper-based option, must be taken in our authorised office in London or Swindon on the scheduled day. You may use the "Zoom" app to appear for the speaking, listening, and communication evaluations.

However, you must register for the exam at least three weeks before the exam date.

Exam Format

Students must pass the speaking, listening, communicating, reading, and writing tests to receive the Pearson Edexcel and NCFE Functional Skills Qualification in English at Entry Level 2 certificate. The exam format is provided below:

Speaking, Listening, and Communicating

• Duration: 15 minutes
• Marks awarded: n/a

Reading

• Duration: 45 minutes.
• Marks awarded:20 marks
• You can use a dictionary

Writing

• Duration: 50 minutes
• Marks awarded: 35 marks
• You cannot use a dictionary

Course Curriculum

• Identify and extract the main information and detail from short explanations

• Make requests and ask clear questions appropriately in different contexts

• Respond appropriately to straightforward questions

• Follow the gist of discussions

• Clearly express straightforward information and communicate feelings and opinions on a range of straightforward topics

• Make appropriate contributions to simple group discussions with others about a straightforward topic

• Read correctly words designated for Entry Level 2 (see Annexe C)

• Understand the main points in texts

• Understand organisational markers in short, straightforward texts

• Use effective strategies to find the meaning of words and check their spelling (e.g. a simple dictionary, spell-checker)

• Read and understand sentences with more than one clause

• Use illustrations, images and captions to locate information

• Use basic punctuation correctly (e.g. full stops, capital letters, question and exclamation marks)

• Form regular plurals

• Use the first and second letters to sequence words in alphabetical order

• Spell correctly words designated for Entry Level 2 (see Annexe C)

• Communicate information in words, phrases and simple sentences

• Complete a form asking for personal information (e.g. first name, surname, address, postcode, age, date of birth)

• Write in compound sentences, using common conjunctions (e.g. or, and, but) to connect clauses

• Use adjectives and simple linking words in the appropriate way
