Official Exam/Assessment:

You will be assessed via paper based exam that you can take at our exam centre. When you will be ready for the official exam there is an additional registration fee of £150 (Excl. VAT) for Pearson Edexcel awarding body to book the official exam.

Assessment Procedure

Near the end of this Entry Level 2 English Course, you will be evaluated using writing and reading tasks that have been externally set, internally graded, and externally verified by the awarding body. However, the listening and speaking assessment is internally determined. Your results will be sent to Pearson Edexcel's internal verifier when you finish the exam. The awarding body will issue you the qualification certificate if you successfully complete all three components.

You must appear for the exam in our designated office in London or Swindon on the exam day for the writing and reading assessment, which is offered as a paper-based option. For the speaking, listening, and communicating evaluation, you will be allowed to appear using the “Zoom” app.

You must, however, submit your registration for the test at least three weeks prior to the exam date.

Speaking, listening, communicating, reading, and writing tests are included in the Pearson Edexcel and NCFE Functional Skills Qualification in English at Entry Level 2.

  • Understand the main points in texts
  • Understand organisational markers in short, straightforward texts
  • Use effective strategies to find the meaning of words and check their spelling (e.g. a simple dictionary, spell-checker)
  • Read and understand sentences with more than one clause
  • Use illustrations, images and captions to locate information
  • Use basic punctuation correctly (e.g. full stops, capital letters, question and exclamation marks)
  • Form regular plurals
  • Use the first and second letters to sequence words in alphabetical order
  • Spell correctly words designated for Entry Level 2 (see Annexe C)
  • Communicate information in words, phrases and simple sentences
  • Complete a form asking for personal information (e.g. first name, surname, address, postcode, age, date of birth)
  • Write in compound sentences, using common conjunctions (e.g. or, and, but) to connect clauses
  • Use adjectives and simple linking words in the appropriate way
