Official Exam/Assessment:

You will be assessed via an online remotely invigilated exam that you can take from the comfort of your own home. When you will be ready for the official exam there is an additional registration fee of £375 +VAT for Pearson Edexcel and NCFE awarding body and an additional registration fee of £190 (Excl. VAT) for Open Awards awarding body to book the official exam.

Assessment structure

Learners will need to meet the requirements outlined below before the qualification can be awarded.

The Pearson Edexcel Functional Skills Qualification in Mathematics at Level 2 consists of one externally assessed assessment.

Each assessment comprises two sections – a non-calculator section (calculator prohibited) and a calculator section (calculator permitted).

The assessments are available as paper-based and onscreen, on-demand assessment.

Section A: Non-calculator

  • Duration = 25 minutes
  • Number of marks = 16
  • Percentage of qualification = 25%

Section B: Calculator

  • Duration = 1 hour 30 minutes
  • Number of marks = 48
  • Percentage of qualification = 75%

  • Using numbers and the number system – whole numbers, fractions, decimals and percentages
  • Using common measures, shapes and space
  • Handling information and data

Section A and Section B are presented as separate question and answer booklets, and must be taken in the same examination session.

Learners will need to meet the requirements outlined below before the qualification can be awarded.

The Pearson Edexcel Functional Skills Qualification in English at Level 2 consists of one internally-set and internally-marked Speaking, listening and communicating assessment, one externally-assessed Reading assessment and one externally assessed Writing assessment. They are available as paper-based and onscreen, on demand assessments.

Speaking, listening and communicating:

Speaking, listening and communicating is assessed through one 5-minute presentation and linked question and answer session in groups of three to four and one 15-minute formal discussion together in groups of three to five learners.

  • Duration = Formal 15 minutes and Up to 25 minutes in total
  • Number of marks = n/a

Reading:

Reading is assessed through a test comprised of multiple choice, short open response and medium open response questions.

  • Duration = 75 minutes
  • Number of marks = 35

Writing:

Writing is assessed through a test comprised of two tasks. (42% of marks assesses spelling, punctuation and grammar).

  • Duration = 60 minutes
  • Number of marks = 36
