Description

As the course is online-based, students have 12 months access to our online learning platform to study completely at their own pace. Learners will work through written essays and a worksheet using our provided learning materials that can be accessed through our online learning platform. There are also observations carried out as part of the assessment for this course, you will need to be able to deliver lessons to a minimum of 3 learners to meet the criteria.

If you are applying for QTLS and you teach maths or English (numeracy, GCSE, Functional Skills or ESOL) in either the FE and skills sector or in schools you are required to hold at least a Level 3 (i.e. ‘A’ Level) in maths and English. This qualification will provide you with the required level to teach in these environments.

Who is this course for?

This course is the ideal award for those learners who wish to develop their knowledge and personal skills in mathematics as required for entry to specialist teaching qualifications.

Requirements

  • Must be able to demonstrate skills in numeracy and literacy at a Level 2 standard
  • Must be in a voluntary or paid role – you will be observed during this course

Alte asked:

I have already completed the teacher training course. To teach Math/ Numeracy , can I start at level 3 or is it compulsory to start at Level 2

Answer:

Hi Alte, you can start straight away at level 3! Thank you!

This was helpful. Thank you for your feedback.
David asked:

If I wanted to teach online but not do QTS would I be able to do this with this course alone. Also could I still do course with no functional maths

Answer:

Hi David, this course is usually partnered with a full teaching qualification such as the L5DET - so it would be worth checking with the school on their requirements. You would still need functional numeracy as an entry requirement for this course, you can take a free short assessment on our platform if you do not already hold this!

This was helpful. Thank you for your feedback.
ksydney asked:

I teach approximately 20 hours a week, but all of my sessions are 1:1.

Answer:

Hi Ksydney, for your observations you will need to deliver a Maths session to a minimum of 3 learners. Thank you.

David asked:

I only have gcse grade 3, I am studying for functional maths level 2. Will this course allow me to teach numeracy. I am a qualified teaching assistant

Answer:

Hi David, this course is designed to give you the qualification and knowledge to teach Numeracy. However, you would still need a full teaching qualification as well. Thank you.

This was helpful. Thank you for your feedback.
Anonymous asked:

Hi, can the observation be taken internally or will there have to be an observer externally for the observations to take place?

Answer:

Hi, yes you are able to conduct the observations internally providing that you have a suitably qualified observer and meet all the requirements. Thank you.

Tareq asked:

-is there course outline i can see? - are observed teaching tasks spread all over the course or towards the end? i tutor math in private.is this ok

Answer:

Hi Tareq there is a course outline within the learning outcomes, this will list the units that you need to complete. For observations each observation can be spread out through the duration. Being a private tutor in maths is okay as long as you have a minimum of three students to teach for the observations. Thank you

This was helpful. Thank you for your feedback.
S asked:

What does this mean: "Must be in a voluntary or paid role – you will be observed during this course"

Answer:

Hi S, as there are observation elements to this course where you are expected to deliver teaching sessions we ask that you have a voluntary or paid role where you can deliver these observed sessions. Thank you.

This was helpful. Thank you for your feedback.
