Description

Upon achievement of this qualification learners will be able to progress to the Level 5 Diploma in Health and Social Care. The Certificate supports learners’ access to Higher Education and progression to further learning at Level 4 and above, and a wide range of job roles within the health and social care sector.

Aims of the course

These are to:

  • Understand the functions of national and local health and social care provision
  • Understand the roles and responsibilities of the health and social care practitioner when empowering individuals
  • Develop and demonstrate how outcomes of Child Safeguarding Practice Reviews and Safeguarding Adults Reviews inform practice in the health and social care sector
  • Demonstrate how to obtain and record physiological measurements
  • Demonstrate how to reflect on and plan for personal and professional development within the health and social care sector
  • Carry out a research project
  • progress to Higher Education in a related field of study

To be awarded the Level 3 Certificate in Health and Social Care learners are required to successfully Learners must achieve the unit assessments for the 3 mandatory units:

Unit 9 – Reflective practice

Unit 10 – Empowerment in health and social care

Unit 11 – Protection of children, young people and adults in health and social care

Unit 12 – Anatomy and physiology for health and social care

Unit 13 – Research skills for health and social care

Unit 14 – Personal and professional development

Unit 15 – Mental health and well-being

Unit 16 – Nutrition for health and social care

Unit 17 – Biochemistry for health

Placement in a Real Work Environment

Learners will be required to attend placement in a real work environment to support their learning. The minimum required number of placement hours are 175 (including 75 hours completed during the Certificate).

How the course is delivered

This Level 3 Extended Diploma in Health and Social Care is delivered via blended learning. Learners also get full access to online Learning Environment (VLE) which provides access to case studies, learning materials and activities, presentations, and web links. Online tutor support and guidance is provided throughout the course, where learners can interact with the tutors, get feedback on their progress and submit their work electronically. Face to face interactions will be conducted through video sessions or within the classroom environment.

Assessment

All units will be internally assessed using a range of methods. This could include direct observation, a portfolio of evidence and written assignments.
