On completion of the course, students will gain a comprehensive understanding of permit to work systems, their importance and the practical skills needed to implement and manage them effectively. In the first unit you will discover what a work permit is and why it is necessary.
You will explore the key elements of a permit to work including hazard identification, safety measures, duration, expiry, signatures and approvals. You will learn about the purpose and importance of a permit to work as well as the benefits. We will explore the types of work that require a PTW as well as the legal and regulatory requirements.
We will explore the key roles, responsibilities and tasks involved in authorizing a work permit and the different types of work permits required and their specifications. You will also learn about risk assessment and hazard identification.
In the final unit you will gain an understanding of the critical aspects of PTW issuance and control. In this unit will cover the entire life cycle of a PTW from issuance to its final closure covering safe work procedures, communication, training, monitoring and compliance.
In order to complete the course, you must achieve 80% or more in the final multiple choice quiz.
You will earn 3 CPD points on completion of the course, this course will take around 3 hours to complete and the certificate will last for two years.
Units covered
- Unit 1 - Introduction to permit to work systems - In the first unit of permit to work systems we will cover and define what a permit to work is, its key elements, and the benefits of a PTW. You will also learn about the purpose and importance of a PTW and the types of work that require a PTW as well as the legal and regulatory requirements.
- Unit 2 - Types of permits and their application - In this unit, we will explore the diverse world of permits to work, the different types of permits, and uncover their unique requirements and applications.
- Unit 3 - Permit issuance and control - In the third unit we will explore the critical aspects of PTW issuance and control covering the entire life cycle of a PTW from issuance to its final closure. We will cover the importance of adhering to safety regulations, minimising risks, and maintaining compliance.
- Unit 4 - Permit compliance and incident reporting - In the final unit we will focus on compliance and the crucial aspect of incident reporting and its process. We will cover how to report incidents effectively, how organisations can use incident data to drive continuous improvements in safety protocols.
