About the Role

Service Care Solutions is delighted to be recruiting for an experienced Accountant to work with a local authority in Tyne and Wear. This role focuses on the Children's Social Work and Education Finance team, providing a unique opportunity to contribute to the financial management of vital services that support the community's children and young people. Role Overview

As an Accountant in the Children's Social Work and Education team, you will be responsible for managing and overseeing financial processes and ensuring compliance with financial regulations. While experience in children's social care and education finance is desirable, it is not essential. Your primary goal will be to support the strategic financial management and ensure accurate financial reporting within this critical service area.

Key Responsibilities

  • Financial Management: Oversee the financial operations related to children's social work and education, ensuring accuracy and compliance with relevant legislation.
  • Budget Preparation & Monitoring: Assist in the preparation, monitoring, and management of budgets, providing financial advice and support to budget holders.
  • Financial Reporting: Prepare and present detailed financial reports to senior management and other stakeholders, ensuring clarity and accuracy.
  • Strategic Support: Provide financial insights and analysis to support strategic decision-making within the children's social work and education services.
  • Compliance & Governance: Ensure adherence to financial regulations, internal policies, and best practices within the local government finance environment.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Proven experience in a local government finance environment. Experience in children's social care and education finance is desirable but not essential.
  • CCAB qualification (CIPFA, ACCA, ACA, or equivalent) with evidence of continuous professional development (CPD).
  • Strong understanding of financial regulations, business planning, and local government finance practices.
  • Excellent analytical, organisational, and communication skills, with the ability to interpret complex financial information and present it clearly to non-financial stakeholders.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team and support colleagues to achieve common goals.
