We are working with a Borough Council to appoint an Accountant (Finance & Corporate) on a permanent basis.

Like many local authorities, we face increasing challenges in balancing the budget as costs rise and resources are under pressure. However, we are starting from a solid financial base with strong earmarked reserves and no long-term debt.

About the Role

This fantastic role sits within our Finance and Corporate Accounting section of the finance team. (One of three teams in the finance structure). You will have the opportunity to support the Finance Manager and Group Accountant with treasury management, bank reconciliation and maintaining core controls. As well as, submission of returns, management of insurance contracts. You will also contribute to the annual closedown and statement of accounts note preparation. In addition, you will also be involved in developing initiatives that help advance the Finance function and financial processes of the authority.

About the Person

  • Local Government or public sector experience preferred given the specialist nature of the role. Supportive, flexible and a positive attitude.
  • Able to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Excellent self-organisation skills, communication and attention to detail.
  • Qualified, Part Qualified or finalist Candidate (CCAB or equivalent).
  • Good experience in financial accounting, completing reconciliations and analysis to support key financial controls, as well as having strong experience in year-end accounting and treasury management preferably within a Local Government setting.
