Job Title: Accountant

Location: Littlehampton, UK

Duration: Ongoing temporary

Our client, a multinational organisation in Littlehampton, is seeking a dynamic and experienced Accountant to join their team. This role is responsible for supporting the company's financial record-keeping and reporting requirements, ensuring compliance with accounting standards, corporate policies, and ethical practises. The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical skills, excellent organisational abilities, and international business acumen.

Responsibilities:

  • Handle general ledger activities for assigned entities, including overseeing banking, accounts receivable, accounts payable, revenue recognition, fixed assets, and inter-company activities.
  • Prepare and record journal entries related to accruals, payroll accounting and reconciliation, holiday accruals, prepayments, and internal and external commissions.
  • Complete high-quality balance sheet reconciliations monthly, following corporate guidelines and timetable.
  • Review and analyse system-generated transactions, ensuring reasonableness.
  • Maintain accurate records of assets, liabilities, and financial transactions.
  • Interpret and comply with financial reporting requirements, rules, and regulations.
  • Analyse financial statements and provide reports to higher-level management.
  • Ensure compliance with internal controls, including SOX 404.
  • Collaborate with local and foreign subsidiaries to resolve accounting issues.
  • Develop and analyse complex management reports.
  • Review and maintain billing information in financial systems, ensuring accuracy and compliance with accounting regulations.
  • Assist in resolving audit queries.
  • Support the Finance Manager, Accountant Lead, and other team members as required.

Requirements:

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to multitask and meet deadlines.
  • Fluency in written and spoken English; knowledge of a second European language, particularly German, is advantageous.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to influence others.
  • Ability to work under limited supervision.
  • Working knowledge of US GAAP; experience with other GAAP is a plus.
  • Familiarity with internal control environments and compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley Act.
  • Advanced Excel skills and proficiency in accounting software, such as SAP and Blackline.
  • Education and experience to identify and resolve issues and improve processes.
  • Results-oriented communication and team interaction.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft applications, including Word and Outlook.

Experience:

  • Essential: 3-6 years of experience in accounting-related fields.
  • Desirable: Experience with ERP systems, particularly SAP; experience working for a US-led multinational company; experience in the manufacturing sector.

Education:

  • Essential: Qualified AAT (or bachelor's degree in accounting, business, finance) and/or Part Qualified ACCA/CIMA.
