Graduate Actuarial Trainee – Reserving

Location: Manchester

Markerstudy is a leading provider of private insurance in the UK, insuring around 5% of the private cars on the UK roads, 20% of commercial vehicles and over 30% of motorcycles in total premium levels of circa £1.2b.  The majority of business is written as the insurance pricing provider behind household names such as Co-op, Sainsbury’s, O2, Halifax, AA, Saga and Lloyds Bank to list a few and Markerstudy also has a large and growing direct presence in the market as well.

Role Overview

  • To provide actuarial and data analytical analysis to support the relevant department to deliver their objectives.
  • To deliver assigned pieces of work as directed.

Responsibilities

  • Support Reserving team to ensure delivery against business plans.
  • Undertake highly technical / complex analysis using actuarial techniques under the guidance of the senior team members, providing quality assurance.
  • Support in producing Reserving and other Actuarial input into business planning, regulatory reporting, re-insurance placements and M&A transactions.
  • Input into the production of exhibits and presentations for key internal and external stakeholders (Pricing, Underwriting, Claims, Reinsurers and Regulators as required).
  • Continually improving the ‘actuarial control cycle’, by improving and developing processes to improve reserving accuracy and efficiency.
  • Driving personal development and demonstrate a positive attitude.
  • To ensure that:

o             Customers are always considered in all actions,

o             All regulatory requirements including DPA, FCA, TCF and other are met, and

o             To adhere to all relevant Company policies and processes.

  • To undertake other reasonable responsibilities and projects as instructed by their line manager.

Essential Skills

  • Graduate level position up to two years' experience – no prior direct experience required.
  • Ability to perform accurate calculations under time pressure
  • Can interpret analytical outputs in the context of the question posed.
  • Ability to communicate results in a clear and concise manner to senior members of the team
  • High level of computer literacy with good understanding Microsoft packages

Desirable Skills

  • Ability to manage time effectively
  • Has a good understanding of Insurance products.
  • Interpersonal skills and self-awareness – proactive in seeking out development opportunities
