But that's not the full quote. The full quote is "A jack of all trades is a master of none, but oftentimes better than a master of one."
 
He intended it as a compliment, not an insult. And who are we to argue with our greatest ever playwright and poet?
  
This firm is looking to replace their retiring Jack, someone who has grown in the job, and grown and grown.
  
The company is smart enough to resist the temptation to look for a like-for-like replacement. Because, well, they're unlikely to exist. So instead they're looking for someone who can grow and grow and grow.
  
The principal of this business looks after a significant client bank (9-figure AUM). As you can imagine he doesn't have much time for anything else, which is where Jack and long-term you, come in.
  
You'll organise the planner. You'll oversee a junior administrator. If you're a paraplanner or in compliance you'll focus on that. If you're in admin you'll grow into your role and move into paraplanning and/or compliance. This will take time and the principal knows this - they have plans in place to outsource certain jobs until you're ready to take them on.
  
But you won't be thrown in at the deep end. The person you're replacing isn't leaving until January so there'll be time for a proper handover.
  
As you can tell, the principal is very open-minded about background and very focused on the individual behind the CV. It's a small business so the ethics, values and mindset of the person will be key.
  
This flexibility extends to salary (he has budgeted up to £50,000) and hybrid working. And the role will be moulded around your talents and expertise.
  
In short, it's a job that will fit you like a glove. Given Shakespeare's dad was a glovemaker, he'll at least be happy with that.
 
 HERE'S WHAT YOU'LL NEED:
  
You'll be either:
  
  • A financial planning administrator looking to develop
  
  • A paraplanner happy to help out in admin and compliance
  
  • A compliance manager happy to help out in paraplanning and admin
  
But whilst financial planning experience is a must, exams aren't the be all and end all.
