We are currently recruiting for Administrators/Lab Assistants to work for one of our NHS clients in the Steeton, Keighley/Bradford area.

Job Details:

  • Working on a rostered basis to cover all working hours as required, including evenings, nights, weekends, and bank holidays.
  • Initially for a 6-month period, with the possibility of extension for the right candidates starting ASAP.

Main Duties:

  • Handle telephone and face-to-face pathology inquiries.
  • Liaise with service users and dispatch consumables.
  • Solve daily problems like mislabelled specimens and insufficient samples.
  • Sort and prepare high volumes of work for diagnostic testing.
  • Prioritize workload to meet turnaround times, including urgent work.
  • Organize daily workload and ensure proper sample testing.
  • Follow business continuity plans with the supervisor during service outages.
  • Input patient data into lab systems while maintaining accuracy.
  • Understand the urgency of accurate sample processing.
  • Load urgent samples onto main lab analysers.
  • Follow SOPs for sample requirements and waste disposal.
  • Clean and maintain pre-analytical equipment.
  • Troubleshoot and report equipment faults to engineers.
  • Report errors to Trust estates and handle building issues.
  • Identify incorrect test requests and escalate them to clinical scientists.
  • Follow SOPs for complex pre-analytical processes.
  • Separate and transport samples to other labs.
  • Participate in departmental meetings and cover supervisory roles if needed.
  • Use computers daily and train on different IT systems.
  • Work with the supervisor to deliver core training to new staff on all department tasks.

Skills Required:

  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to prioritize work and work effectively under pressure.
  • Flexibility in working hours to suit the needs of the service.
  • Excellent IT and administration skills.
  • Experience in a medical administration setting would be an advantage but is not essential as full training will be given

As part of the recruitment process, candidates must provide a three-year employment history covering any gaps in employment

This role will require a DBS check prior to employment.
