At Yorkshire Building Society we pride ourselves on being a mutual organisation that places our customers at the heart of everything we do. As a result of this we continue to grow and strengthen our position as one of the most trusted financial services providers in the UK, providing real help with real lives.

About the role

A fixed term opportunity has arisen to join the Asset & Liability Management (ALM) team in the Balance Sheet Control directorate as a specialist leader under the Hedge Management project within the Governance, Risk and Control programme.

The successful candidate will be directly responsible for delivering key aspects of the hedge management project, working with colleagues across the ALM team, wider Finance function and the programme through effective leadership of a team of specialists. The successful candidate will be expected to act as the key liaison between the ALM team, the Balance Sheet Control leadership team and the programme, and has line management responsibility for colleagues working within the ALM team allocated to the project.

As a subject matter expert in ALM and hedge management you will be required to bridge the technical gap between the BAU team and the programme, providing information and consultancy. This will cover interest rate risk management including structural hedging, funds transfer pricing and committee reporting.

The successful candidate will join an established team of permanent and project colleagues with a breadth of experience in the Asset and Liability Management field. This role would ideally suit someone with a financial services background with experience in treasury transformation who is looking to deepen their expertise.

A strong understanding of a retail financial services balance sheet, corporate structure and data and reporting landscape are key to success in the role. In addition, you will champion a positive risk management culture.

About You

You'll need in-depth knowledge of asset and liability management transformation including hedge management, funds transfer pricing, structural hedging and committee reporting.

This will be coupled with:

  • A deep understanding of transformation programmes within financial services treasury or financial risk management.
  • A working knowledge of interest rate and liquidity risk management with a broad understanding of margin reporting and balance sheet management within a retail financial services organisation.
  • Experience of leading a high performing team of specialist colleagues.
  • The ability to communicate to specialists and generalists alike at a variety of levels of seniority.
  • Experience of delivering change to tight deadlines and utilising technological solutions.
  • Excellent attention to detail, a pro-active attitude and continuous improvement mindset
  • Effective communication, engagement and influencing skills demonstrating the ability to understand, define and articulate business requirements to specialists and non-specialists alike.
  • You’ll be someone who is keen to help others learn and develop and provide thought leadership to encourage best practice in others.

While this is a specialist role we are open to discussions with candidates with transferable skills such as a high level of numeracy, logical reasoning and the ability to communicate complex ideas to a general audience coupled with experience of transformation.
