Brockenhurst College has a new and exciting opportunity for an Art Technician to join the team on a full-time, term time only basis. In return,you will receive a competitive salary of £23,014 pro rata.

About the role:

The Creative Technician at the college plays a pivotal role in ensuring the smooth operation and high standards of the creative arts and media department. This position involves coordinating the efforts of the creative technician team, maintaining studio and workshop facilities, managing resources, and ensuring health and safety compliance. The Senior Art Technician supports both staff and students by providing technical expertise, overseeing equipment and material maintenance, and facilitating a conducive learning environment.

Responsibilities as our Art Technician will include:

  • Attending weekly creative technician meetings 
  • Review and management of the creative helpdesk in conjunction with the team
  • Developing and maintaining specialist resources 
  • Ensuring the team is resourced, organised and developed to meet the needs of the creative courses 
  • Placing Orders on Business World and updating departmental budget spreadsheets. 
  • Contributing to departmental budgetary targets, liaising and networking with suppliers to secure competitive prices. 
  • Issuing equipment, materials and books to students and staff.? 
  • Demonstration and assistance to members of staff and students, in workshops and on individual basis in the use of apparatus and equipment, materials and processes. 
  • Undertaking, and maintaining records of regular safety checks on equipment, tools and materials used to ensure they comply with Health and Safety Regulations and requirements.? 
  • Assisting staff with general clerical duties and with the maintenance of records for the Section.? 

As our Art Technician, you’llideally have:

  • Degree or equivalent professional qualification in relevant subject area or equivalent industry experience  
  • Experience in supporting teaching and learning through technical support 
  • Specialist knowledge of one or more of the following areas: Art and Design, Photography, Media 
  • Able to relate well to learners of all abilities and to assess learner needs 
  • Empathy with and strong commitment to meeting the needs of individual students 
  • Strong organizational and leadership skills.
  • Proficient in using and maintaining a variety of art-related equipment and materials.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Commitment to maintaining high standards of health and safety.
  • Experience in managing budgets and resources effectively.
  • Competence in using digital tools and platforms relevant to the role.
  • Skilled in coordinating people and prioritizing tasks.
  • Proficient in communicating and reporting progress to managers and monitoring progress.
