Assistant Gardener
East Sussex
£26.00 per hour

A rare opportunity to join established friendly team in looking after our clients beautiful Estate based near Lewes.

Salary £26K to £30K depending on skills and experience hours 8am to 4.30pm. Some flexibility required during summer to cover holidays. 21days holiday plus statutory days. 5% employers Pension Contribution. Must be a car owner driver.

General overview


  • Experienced in pruning techniques e.g. Roses, Fruit trees, Ornamental trees & shrubs.
  • Planting of trees, shrubs, perennials & annuals
  • Pruning various plant species including roses, fruit trees, shrubs etc.
  • Grass cutting & lawn maintenance.
  • Horticultural qualification to RHS level 2 or equivalent helpful not essential.
  • Problem solving approach.
  • Approachable and positive.
  • Digger experience desirable.
  • Able to plan, prioritise work and take responsibility for a given task.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Physically fit.
  • Flexible – be willing to give support where necessary and be able to change plans at short notice to adapt to changing priorities.
  • Machine maintenance experience desirable.
  • Flexible – be willing to give support where necessary and be able to change plans at short notice to adapt to changing priorities.
  • Able to deputise for Head Gardener in delivering guided tours when called on.

    • Carry out all horticultural tasks to a high standard.
    • An understanding of ornamental plants including identification of both Latin and common names.
    • PA1 & PA6 desirable

      • PPE provided by the estate to be looked after and maintained.
