Responsibilities

  • Advise the business and articulate the tax implications of Group business plans and opportunities across geographies.
  • Manage the groups outsourced tax reporting and compliance obligations in respect of Real Estate and VAT.
  • Work with Finance and business colleagues internally and with external tax advisers and Authorities, across national boundaries.
  • Add value through technical expertise and application  to the firm and deliver business and financial benefits from effective tax management.

Real Estate funds 

  • Monitoring the statutory tax obligations and reporting requirements for the Real Estate funds to ensure submission of accurate and timely tax returns (e.g. VAT, income tax , CIS etc.) to the relevant Tax Authorities through liaison with outsourced service providers. Ensuring that relevant tax payments are made accurately and on time.  
  • Dealing with tax authority enquiries and liaising with external advisors where necessary. 
  • Oversight of compilation of capital allowance reports
  • Supporting business needs: assistance with Real Estate deals, liaison with lawyers and provision of relevant tax documents and information, review of VAT and tax clauses of disposal and acquisition agreements.  

Senior Accounting Officer  

  • Ensuring that the group meets its annual reporting obligation and oversight of the quarterly SAO process.  

HR / Payroll matters 

  • Ensure that Employment Related Security filings and PAYE settlement agreements are filed annually for relevant entities. 
  • Ensure IR35 legislation is followed and our end user risk is monitored on an ongoing basis.   
  • Advise from time to time on employee taxes when requested by HR.  

Ad hoc tax work 

  • Tax related advice to the Group and its business units and, where relevant to funds. In addition, manage the tax relationship with third party advisers and working with the Head of Tax to identify when external tax advice is required.

Other responsibilities

  • Make suggestions to the Head of Tax to improve operational effectiveness and consistency through process, technology etc
  • Working within the broader finance team to deliver high quality outputs in the most effective ways.
  • Keeping up to date with all relevant areas of tax law and practice. Raise tax knowledge and awareness amongst all relevant employees of Federated Hermes.
  • Consideration of fees appropriate for external advice and making recommendations to the Head of Tax.
  • Establishing credibility with business units and increasing visibility and use of the tax team group wide.

Regulatory Responsibilities:

Adhere to the FCA’s Conduct Rules, understanding that they set basic standards of good personal conduct.

Qualifications:

  • Educated to degree (or equivalent) standard.
  • Working knowledge of Excel and Alphatax
