This Team in Sheffield Social services are a dedicated team working in the field of social care, specifically focusing on children and young people. Our mission is to provide essential support to families in need, ensuring their well-being and promoting positive outcomes for children.

I am now supporting them in the recruitment of a long term temp position for a field services support worker. This is an ideal opportunity to gain access and experience of working for a local authority and can a step up into a social care environment.

This are the details

Responsibilities: As a Support Worker, you will collaborate closely with Social Workers and other professionals to assist children and young people who are “in need” under the Children Act 1989 or require additional support. Your responsibilities will include:

  1. Support Groups and Duty Rota:
    • Facilitate support groups for families.
    • Participate in the duty rota to provide timely assistance.
  2. Direct Work with Families:
    • Assess and work directly with families needing support.
    • Offer parenting advice, guidance, and practical assistance.
    • Signpost families to relevant services when necessary.
  3. Promoting Skills and Opportunities:
    • Promote educational, training, and employment opportunities for young people.
    • Enhance their social skills and empower them to build a brighter future.
  4. Experience and Skills:
    • Previous experience in a social care setting or similar environment.
    • Ability to complete chronologies, life story books, and contact plans.
    • Establish links within local communities to maximize support.
  5. Effective Communication:
    • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
    • Ability to identify risks and respond appropriately.
  6. Conflict Resolution:
    • Skilled at resolving conflicts in multi-agency working.
    • Advocate for the best outcomes for children, young people, and families.
  7. Qualifications:
    • GCSE Maths and English Grade A-C (or equivalent).
    • Good working knowledge of relevant legislation.
  8. Additional Considerations:
    • While having access to a car is preferable, it is not essential.
    • The role may involve travel throughout the country to support families.
