Job Title: Assistant Transport Commissioner

Location: Winchester/Hybrid

Contract Type: There are two temporary contracts available for this role. One contract ending 31st October 2024 and another ending March 2025.

Salary: £16.70 per hour

About the Role

Working withing the Transport Team at Hampshire County Council, your main responsibilities will be to ensure decisions as well as child, operator and Passenger Assistant records are updated in a timely and accurate manner in agreed systems (including Capita One and Passenger Assistant database) so that others in the team can quickly and easily identify progress and status.

What is the day-to-day of the role:

  • Expected to support the use, maintenance and embedding of route planning software into transport planning approaches.
  • Responsible for working with others in the service to ensure that effective use is made of technology to proactively communicate with families.
  • Maintenance of effective working relationships with other parts of the Service and with families and schools.
  • Responsible for resolving day to day operational issues that arise in the delivery of School Transport Services.
  • Acting as an escalation point for operational issues from the triage team.
  • Responsible for transport commissioning for mainstream, SEN, post 16 and social care children in accordance with the relevant policies.
  • Under the direction of the Operations Manager, responsible for the sourcing of transport arrangements - single routes, emergency routes/temporary routes.
  • Accountable to work to Standard Operating Procedures as identified by the School Transport management team.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Extensive relevant experience in the application of administrative systems and procedures
  • Computer literacy with experience of using a variety of software for data management and transmission, especially the Microsoft Ofice (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Experience of working in a customer-focussed environment
  • Attention to detail
  • Experience of negotiation with other professionals
  • Excellent organisational skills and time management skills
  • Well-developed range of communication skills, including oral, written, presentation and briefing others
  • Flexible and adaptable approach
  • Ability to work well under sustained pressure
  • Ability to work closely as a member of a team
  • Educated to degree level or equivalent
  • Extensive knowledge of and experience within the school transport field
  • Understanding of SEN/Social Care
