My client, a thriving young consultancy are seeking Principal or Associate Level Ecologists to join their regional teams across the Midlands, Home Counties and the South.

A well-rounded consultant who wants to oversee a developing team and make sure we retain our performance, culture, and quality would be ideal for this post. Because our work is project-based, the candidate must be willing to travel, work away from home, and occasionally stay overnight. However, we have caps on the number of nights away or antisocial hours worked because we strive to ensure our team members meet their personal and career objectives.

Essential Skills and Experience

  • Sincere and observable passion for the environment and ecology;
  • Experience in junior member guidance or line management within an ecology team;
  • A survey licence for one or more protected species, such as newts or bats, or a certificate of proficiency in another taxonomic field (inverts, botany);
  • Knowledge of protected species surveys and/or habitat surveys (Phase 1 or NVC/UK Habitats);
  • Knowledge of creating and putting into practice mitigation;
  • Expertise in offering professional assessment of environmental studies;
  • Driven to operate both individually and collaboratively;
  • Competent in speaking with clients, coworkers, and outside parties;
  • CIEEM full or chartered member (or qualified if not in current membership); and
  • Complete driver's licence and automobile usage.

Desirable Skills

  • Experience of sales/ business development, or willingness to learn;
  • Experience of EcIA, BREEAM or biodiversity net gain;
  • Sophisticated knowledge of one or more specialised ecological domains, such as bats;
  • A strong passion for and proficiency in one or more specialised ecological fields, such as botany, bats, or newts;
  • Degree or its equivalent in a field of study relevant to ecology;
  • Familiarity with QGIS or ArcGIS (training available if not);
  • Possess permits for European Protected Species Mitigation (EPSM) for protected species, such as bats or great crested newts; and
  • Hold specialist mitigation class licences such as Bat Low Impact Class licence or Badger class licence.
