As an Autism Support Assistant, you play a crucial role in creating an inclusive and supportive learning environment within our SEN school. We at GSL Education London are seeking a dynamic and passionate individual for this role, starting this September.

The school is a vibrant and nurturing community where every student’s unique abilities are celebrated. They provide specialised education and support for students with autism, ensuring they thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.

Your Duties:

 Individualised Support: You’ll work closely with students on the autism spectrum, tailoring your approach to meet their unique needs. Your patience, empathy, and understanding will make a difference every day.

Promoting Communication: Autism can affect communication skills. As an assistant, you’ll help students express themselves effectively, whether through speech, visual aids, or alternative methods.

Navigating Social Challenges: Students with autism may struggle with social interactions. Your guidance will empower them to build connections, understand social cues, and develop meaningful relationships.

Managing Transitions: Change can be challenging for students with autism. Your support during transitions—whether between activities, classrooms, or school years—will ease their anxiety.

Sensory Sensitivity: Some students experience sensory sensitivities. You’ll create a sensory-friendly environment, ensuring comfort and minimising sensory overload.

Behavioural Strategies: Implement evidence-based strategies to manage behaviour effectively. Your consistency and positive reinforcement will foster a calm and supportive atmosphere.

Collaboration: Work closely with teachers, parents, and other professionals to create personalised learning plans. Your insights contribute to student success.

Requirements:

  • Understanding of autism spectrum differences.
  • Flexibility and adaptability.
