Behaviour Mentor needed at secondary school in the Bolton area that caters for young people with Social, Emotional or Mental Health difficulties (SEMH).

It is an established school with a great reputation in the area. It also benefits from a semi-rural location and connections with other schools and provisions within this outstanding trust.

Role: Behaviour Mentor at secondary school in the Bolton area for children aged 11-16 with SEMH needs.
Location: Bolton
Start Date: September 2024
Contract: Temp to perm for the right person.

Hours: Monday to Friday 8:30am-3:30pm.

Pay: Up to £100/day DOE for first 12 weeks.

Equal pay to permanent staff in similar roles from 13th week onwards

Paid PAYE via Tradewind. We don't use third party umbrella payroll companies!

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide 1:1 academic, emotional & behavioural support to students aged 11-16 with Social, Emotional or Mental Health needs (SEMH) and challenging behaviours.
  • Some of the students are Looked After Children, Non-Attenders or on phased re-integration to school.
  • Holistic yet flexible approach needed that starts by building strong, honest, transparent and trusting relationships with pupils in order to combat the difficulties they face that include social & emotional needs.
  • Assist in implementing personalised learning plans, tailored to individual student's requirements.
  • Foster a positive, safe and inclusive classroom environment, encouraging student's engagement and emotional well-being.
  • Collaborate closely with teachers, parents, and external professionals to develop effective strategies and interventions.

Requirements:

  • Previous experience supporting children or young adults that display challenging behaviours.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships.
  • Resilient, patient, empathetic and a compassionate approach to support vulnerable learners.
  • Candidates with a background as a Teaching Assistant, Support Worker, Residential Support Worker, Mental Health practitioner, Outreach Worker, Pastoral Support Worker, Learning Mentor, Learning Support Assistant or Youth Worker, Sports Coach will be considered.

  • Have an enhanced DBS certificate that is on the Update Service (or be happy to apply for a new one)
